Listen to: “Three Old Ladies” by Paddy Roberts

I blame my dad for introducing me to Paddy Roberts.

Merry Christmas, You Suckers” was his song of choice last December.

He liked it so much that he ordered a full CD, “Songs for Gay Dogs / Funny World.” And I have it in my hands right now.

Paddy Roberts & an original LP that I don’t have

Let it be known that these songs aren’t what you’d call dull. It’s amazing what a person can pack into seemingly simple lyrics.

Here’s the first song, entitled “Three Old Ladies.”

“Oh, dear, what can the matter be?
Three old ladies locked in the lavatory
They were there from Monday to Saturday
Nobody knew they were there…”

What’s also cool about this particular album is only two songs go above 3 minutes, and most are decently below. It makes for a short, snappy listening experience—and makes you want to hear more.
