Moonbeam Children’s Book Award Run By Costly Service

Ah, children’s book awards. A lot of us would love to have a lot of them on our books!

I just received this email from a publication sent by SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators):

PRO INSIDER: Retraction
We regret that we listed Moonbeam Children’s Book Award in our June issue, as it has been brought to our attention that this contest is run by The Jenkins Group, a costly self-publishing services. Please do not apply for this award.
Thank you,
Bonnie Bader & the staff of the PRO INSIDER
Whether for the fact that it’s a self-publishing service or that it’s a costly one, or both, my reaction is the same: Eesh.
